Current volunteering vacancies:
Bristol Pound CIC operates a high profile local currency scheme in Bristol and collaborates with a range of partners in the UK and overseas to develop and deliver other currency schemes and related economic interventions. We have a highly motivated staff team running the scheme in Bristol supported by a board of both paid executive and voluntary directors. It is vital that this board have the necessary breadth of skills to support the onward development and delivery of the CICs pioneering work.
We are now looking for a Research Director who can help us develop a research strategy and identify specific activities to assess the impact, outcomes and sustainability of the Bristol Pound and other similar schemes. This person will have research skills ideally in one or more of the following fields: Local economics, social impact, social capital, community cohesion, well-being, values.
The Research Director will also help us establish good relationships with potential research partners and able to advise on research related funding applications and review any reports that result from the research activities.
We anticipate a minimum commitment of 12 hours per month will be required to help develop the research strategy. The successful applicant will need to attend most regular bi-monthly board meetings in central Bristol in addition to any hours spent fulfilling the specific role.

Bristol Pound are looking for writers who want to gain experience of copywriting and communications for a not-for-profit organisation.
The Bristol Pound is the UK’s first and biggest city-wide currency. It’s money that sticks to Bristol and promotes local, independent businesses. Every day, people are spending Bristol Pounds to pay for everything from coffee to chimney sweeping – and we want to help them do it more.
We’re ramping up our communications to make it easier for people to use the Bristol Pound and let more people know about it. We’re developing a new website, focusing our attention on quality blog content and we need some help.
Over 800 small businesses have signed up to the Bristol Pound and we want to shout about them. What they’re doing, why they’re different and why they love Bristol – that’s where you come in.
Skills and experience
We’re looking for a number of writers who have:
- strong blog writing and proof reading skills
- a good knowledge of Bristol
- an understanding of why the Bristol Pound exists
- an enthusiasm for meeting new people, interviewing and writing
- basic photography skills (can take a decent picture with their phone)
- experience of using WordPress (desirable – we can train you)
The role would suit people looking to go into a career in journalism or digital communications, particularly in the charity sector. It would equally suit anyone who wants to write blog posts and help the Bristol Pound to grow.
