Testimonial - Shop
Tell us a bit about your business. E.g. When and how did you start off?
We are SHOP (Vintage Lounge and Arts Venue) CIC, run by Jayne Marshall and Brett Atkinson. We are a non-profit, social enterprise and our main vision and mission is to support artists and creative people within Bristol. We opened in 2006 and neither of us had any experience of running a business before.
When did you first hear about the Bristol Pound? When did you join?
We heard about it through the local news. We joined around the time of the launch.
Why did you get involved with the Bristol Pound?
As a company we feel it’s important to support initiatives that support independent community.
What’s TXT2PAY like?
Most people are pretty adept with their mobile phones these days, so very simple and for a shop like ours that doesn’t have a card machine, very useful.
How have your Bristol Pounds been re-spent or where do you plan to re-spend them?
We have spent them at the Grain Barge and 20th Century Flicks, though these are places we go anyway. We have started looking on the Directory, when we get some. We are BCC tenants so will be sure to spend some with them, when rent comes around.
What’s the best thing that has happened for you and your business from joining?
We love Bristol, so just to feel a part of a unique initiative, that the city is investing in, to strengthen the indy community is enough.
What do you hope will happen as a result of Bristol people and businesses having their own currency?
I hope it will make people more conscious of how they spend their money.
