Dom’s top-ten vegan £B picks

I’ve been vegan for 26 years and have been a member of the £B team since October 2018, as Finance Assistant. There are so many great vegan friendly places that I love spending my £B in, I’ve selected my top ten to share with you…

1 The Spotless Leopard

On Alma Road in Clifton you will find The Spotless Leopard food truck. Their menu is entirely vegan and features hearty, homecooked delights such as the vegetable and chickpea vegan pie or fried tofu sandwich with caramelised onion chutney. Their menu updates regularly so there will always be new things to try and they also have a delicious cake selection.

2 Harvest

Harvest on Gloucester Road is home to many vegan treasures. They are a worker owned co-operative who pride themselves on selling ethically assured, fairly traded produce. They offer vegan cakes and snacks a variety of vegan friendly alcoholic drinks! They are also a £B cashpoint, so a great place to pick up some notes if you are in the Gloucester Road area.

3 Southville Deli

Southville Deli is a hub of excellent produce and I love the friendly welcoming atmosphere. Staff are always on hand to help you find that perfect something. They also stock a wide variety of organic, vegan and ecologically-friendly haircare and skincare ranges.

4 Thali Café

I love Thali Café, I usually visit the North Street, Southville restaurant but there are also restaurants in Clifton, Easton and Montpelier. They have lots of vegan options on their menu, I love their thali (lots of little plates of delicious, nutritious goodness), the spinach tarka daal thali option is a gorgeous lightly spiced split lentil soup with handfuls of fresh spinach, served with a delightful benagali aubergine curry.

5 Ahh Toots

The old £B offices used to be in St Nicks market right by Ahh Toots and the team loved getting an indulgent afternoon treat from them. They are famous for their scrumptious cakes but they also sell vegan sandwiches and toasties. My favourite one of their vegan cakes is the banana and peanut butter cake, not only is it absolutely delicious, it looks divine. I always love the artistry of their cakes.

6 Radford Mill Farm Shop

This is a lovely little shop in Montpelier selling fresh, local produce. In Radford Mill Farm Shop you can get your supply of veggies whilst chatting with the people that grew them! They are also a £B cashpoint so you can swap your sterling for £B here.

7 Café Kino

You can’t speak about the go to vegan places in Bristol without mentioning Café Kino! Cafe Kino is a vegan café, workers co-op and community space in Stokes Croft. They offer tasty, homemade food including amazing burgers, falafel, fresh salads and cakes. They also have a wide selection of delicious teas, fairtrade coffee and soft drinks – all vegan!

8 Earthbound

Another one of my regular haunts is Earthbound in Cotham. They are an organic and wholefood food shop but they also sell vegan toiletries and other essentials. If you’re not quite sure what you are looking for they are great at helping find the perfect vegan treat for you, whether that’s a sweet treat or a brand new shampoo! They source much of their produce from other local independent businesses so in a trip here you could end up supporting three or four Bristol indies.

9 Wild Oats

Wild Oats in Redland is another great shop where you can buy a range of vegan produce. I especially love their health and bodycare selection. They have a wide range of natural products for skin, hair, beauty and body. Their stock is cruelty free, organic, paraben and sulphate free, so you can be safe in the knowledge that as well as putting the right foods in your body, you are also nurturing your body naturally from the outside.

10 The Bristolian Café

The Bristolian Cafe is a great bistro in Montpelier offering lots of vegan options for breakfast lunch at dinner. I love going there with friends and soaking up the warm atmosphere with a cocktail and a homemade vegan burger. They’ve worked hard perfecting the recipe, the finished product contains jackfruit, tempeh, black beans and many other delicious things. It comes served with crispy potatoes, homemade vegan mayo and vegan cheese and is real winner!
