Stella Holmes, age 13
Stella’s winning design is pictured at the top of this post. The competition judges were very impressed with her composition which details the importance of circus to Bristol in the foreground, with a beautiful backdrop of the Avon Gorge and Cabot Tower.
Here’s what Stella had to say:
Why did you enter the competition to design a Bristol Pound?
My sister didn’t want to enter so I did instead.
Can you tell us more about the image you created?
I was inspired by the circus and the bridge in Bristol.
What three words come to mind when you think of Bristol?
Strange but good.
Where’s your favourite place to go in Bristol?
Cargo on Gaol Ferry Steps. The food’s great…
Thank you Stella!
Winning design by George Mcguigan
George Mcguigan, age 6
We were bowled over by George’s entry depicting the birds from his garden, and wanted to make something extra special. We incorporated his bird drawings with Stella’s Bristol scene to create a lovely collaborative piece which we’re excited to unveil next week along with the other seven designs.
Why did you enter the competition to design a Bristol Pound?
Because I thought it would be exciting to have my drawings on the money.
Can you tell us more about the image you created?
I really like wildlife and birds and I love drawing. I wanted to show some of the birds that I’ve seen in my garden in Bristol. I used paper, marker pen and colouring pencils.
What three words come to mind when you think of Bristol?
Nature, Brunel, suspension bridge (sorry, that’s 4!).
Where’s your favourite place to go in Bristol?
The Zoo and SS Great Britain.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
An explorer.
Thank you George!
