Supporting documents for signing up

To complete your application form in person, you will need to; 

  • Live in the membership area (the former Avon county)
  • Provide £1 for your Bristol Credit Union membership deposit
  • Be over 18 years’ old

Please bring your completed application form along with the one document from each box. Please note that the documents provided must be the origional and dated within the last 3 months. 


Provide one item from each section

Confirmation of your identity

  • Passport

  • Driving licence (photo) – provisional is acceptable

  • National Identity Card (non-UK nationals)

  • Income Support or other benefits confirmation letter from DWP or HMRC dated in the last 3 months

    (ONLY if passport or driving licence is unavailable. You must state why not available.)

Confirmation of your address

  • Bank statement or credit card statement (internet print outs NOT acceptable)

  • Council tax bill

  • Rent book or tenancy agreement with letter from HMRC

  • Benefit or Pension Book – only if NOT used as confirmation of identity

  • Letter or statement from Inland Revenue or Students Loan Company

  • Utility bill (gas, electric, water only – internet print outs NOT acceptable)


 We reserve the right to require more information and/or documentation than those listed above and to conduct other checks, including with licensed credit reference agencies and fraud prevention agencies. All membership applications are subject to acceptance.
