2018 has been a year of change for the Bristol Pound, as we said a fond farewell to founding MD Ciaran Mundy and welcomed Diana Finch as our new MD.

Diana says “I joined the Bristol Pound at such an exciting point. After an initial period of rapid growth and high levels of interest in the power of local currency to change the world for the better, the currency had rather slipped off the agenda for many people for a couple of years.

I spent much of my first few months with the team working out how to re-engage our existing members and grow the network. What we’ve realised is that the Bristol Pound is about so much more than money – it is about the quality of relationships that underpin economic transactions. When we know and trust the people in our local businesses, we want to support them and we are more willing to put in the time and effort to make those ethical decisions about how we spend our money.

So, 2019 will see us putting relationships first, as we build a sustainable basis for the currency and start to scale up so that we can make the kinds of social, economic and environmental impacts that are our very raison d’être.

It goes without saying that we can’t do this alone – we need the help and support of people who feel as passionately as we do – and to that end we have recently launched our Champions programme. If you think you could be a Community, Business or Funding Champion, please do get in touch to find out more, or to sign up for our first Community Champion training day on 20th February 2019.”
