Tell us a bit about your business. E.g. When and how did you start off?

Canteen and No.1 Harbourside opened in 2009 and 2010 respectively to serve their local communities with delicious and nutritious food, drink and entertainment. Lush food, live music, live oysters, lively bar staff, lovely spaces are what we offer, all are welcome.

When did you first hear about the Bristol Pound? When did you join?

We were approached by Bristol pound because they knew we would love it and we did, so have been involved since the start.

Why did you get involved with the Bristol Pound?

Because we see the limitations (to put it politely) of the current economic systems and see the Bristol Pound as a great step towards re-purposing money for the benefit of the people using it, unlike the mainstream money system.

How do you or your customers feel or behave when using £B compared to sterling?

I think there is a sense that people are questioning their relationship to money in a really productive way, sometimes for the first time, and in this they are just starting to see that we are actually empowered to choose our money systems as a society, which is fantastic.

What’s TXT2PAY like?

Amazing...Another win for £B over sterling.

How have your Bristol Pounds been re-spent or where do you plan to re-spend them?

Business rates and some suppliers.

What’s the best thing that has happened to you & your business from joining?

A glimpse of what is possible at the community level. If we can even question the money systems we are involved with we can question all the systems and align them with what is best for everyone.

What do you hope will happen as a result of Bristol people and businesses having their own currency?

Gradually separate from or change the mainstream money systems that exploit society at large.

How do you help staff to make the most of your customers commitment to using £B?

This is an on-going education as we also educate ourselves. I am sure we can and will do more over the next few years.

It’s your money! Is there anything else you’ve done or would like to help make happen with the £B project you want to tell us about?

Keep the education and empowerment going by demonstrating the benefits of £B.
